Kiplyn Davis Case: Murder suspects will stand trial

The 13 years since Kiplyn Davis disappeared have produced five perjury convictions, countless leads and enough witness testimony to fill a phone book, but no murder convictions. Now, prosecutors will get their chance to put two suspects behind bars for the girl's death.

At the end of the sixth and final day of their preliminary hearing, 4th District Judge Lynn Davis on Tuesday ruled that there was enough evidence to send Timmy Brent Olsen and Christopher Neal Jeppson to trial on murder charges. Both defendants pleaded not guilty.

The defendants are charged with killing Kiplyn, who disappeared from Spanish Fork High School on May 2, 1995, at the age of 15. No body has been found, but she has not been seen since and has long been presumed dead.

"We made another hurdle and Kiplyn's smiling," Richard Davis, Kiplyn's father, said as he choked back tears after the hearing.

Tell Me About It | Is boyfriend embarrassed about her?

Question: I've been going out with my boyfriend for a year. We are just out of college, and this is the first real relationship for both of us. He initiated it after being friends for a year. I really like him, and most everything is going well. The only issue is that he avoids introducing me to his friends. I don't think they know about me. (I asked him, and he said, "They probably assume so.") Everything we do is at my place. He is not very social in general and doesn't really hang out with other people much, but after a year, they should at least know about me. I asked him why he never invites me to hang out with them, and he said that it would probably be very awkward and I would hate them, but that if I really wanted to meet them, he would invite me. It almost seems like he is embarrassed by me.

City manager tells candidate: Bonita can’t control illegal ...

The other mayoral candidates agree it is part of Price's job to be available to Bonita residents with information about the city. If Fulker went to Price to discuss his campaign issues, the city manager is completely in the right talking about the Bonita approach to those issues.

“As a resource of the city, Gary should make himself available, and he does a good job of that," Nelson said. “It really only gets to the point (of crossing the line) if he makes some kind of public statement."

The city staff — Price, in particular — has always done a good job of giving the same information out to candidates as it does to the incumbents they run against, he said. Nelson said all the employees have also done an excellent job in dealing with the potentially awkward situation of incumbents, such as himself and Arend, in the same race.

Burke links set to see ALP MP expelled

A WEST Australian Labor MP is facing expulsion from the ALP and possible criminal action following a new report exposing her links to disgraced former premier Brian Burke.

Premier Alan Carpenter moved today to expel upper house MP Shelley Archer from the Labor party over her links to Mr Burke, a man she describes as her "mentor".

Mr Carpenter described the behaviour of Ms Archer, partner of militant union boss Kevin Reynolds, as "completely unacceptable".

"She said she won't resign, so I want her expelled," he said.

Ms Archer is the latest in a string of political figures tainted by their links to Mr Burke and his lobbying partners.

Mr Carpenter has already sacked three WA Government ministers over improper dealings with Mr Burke and his partner, Julian Grill, after the pair's lobbying activities were examined by the state's Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC).

He was working in a group home with abused children when he got a first-hand glance at life as a police officer.

"There was a lot of stuff I liked about my job," Smith said. "I came to work, I worked with people, I helped people do a lot of problem solving. When I rode along with my friend I saw that he did a lot of the same things I did, in addition to the police work. It looked like a fun career."

It took Smith about a year after he first applied to get hired by the Mill Creek Police Department. During that time, he was subjected to a background check that included a criminal records search and interviews with his friends and family. Mill Creek even checked his credit report.

Once he passed all those requirements, he was hired and was off to the state police academy, where he finished first in his class.

More: Britney Spears , Kevin Federline , Lynne Spears

Britney Spears' lawyers will make a request tomorrow for Britney to have “monitored visitation in a therapeutic setting." Britney's family and friends apparently are successfully encouraging Britney to get mental health help for bipolar disorder in a “creative way." Britney has previously refused the judge's requests to undergo a 730 mental evaluation. If the judge agrees to Britney's current plan, it could prove troublesome for Kevin's lawyers, according to TMZ:

Evaluating bipolar disorder is a long process. If it's done pursuant to a 730 evaluation, the results are submitted to the court. If the Commish were to accept the alternative form of treatment, a doctor-patient privilege could prevent certain information from making its way to the court (unless the privilege is waived).
Here's the likely scenario based on what we're hearing: K-Fed (and probably the court) will not want Brit to bypass the 730 evaluation process.

The Value of 'No'

When I left school, I found my entry-level salary barely able to keep up with my debt payments, and the temptation to turn to my parents for a handout was strong. But at the time my mom and dad were getting divorced, and dealing with their own emotional and financial issues. The last thing I wanted to do was add to their burdens, so I resolved to handle my debt on my own. In doing so, I learned how to budget and came to understand the real cost of accumulating debt.

Having learned my lesson, I'd urged my mom to consider the harm she was doing by not allowing other family members to do the same. And I'd point out that she really didn't have the money to spare. Mom would reply that helping her children helped her, because it pained her to see her kids suffer. Then she'd assure me with a smile: "When you're a mom, you'll understand."

It turns out I should have responded: "No, mom -- when you're a grandmother, you'll understand."

It took a phone call from a granddaughter to convince my mom that bailing her kids out of financial jams has done more harm than good.

of The Greeneville Sun

A total of 1,000 wreaths were placed against the headstones of veterans buried at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery on Friday in preparation for a ceremony today to honor American servicemen and servicewomen.

The local event will be one of hundreds of "Wreaths Across America" ceremonies taking place on Saturday across the United States.

Thirty cadets with the Greene County Air Force Junior ROTC and Greene County veterans were busy Friday as they fanned out to place a fir wreath with a bright red ribbon on each grave site.

They individually bent over and placed a wreath against a headstone, sometimes fluffed up the wreath to make it look better, then stood at attention and saluted each fallen veteran.

The local "Wreaths Across America" remembrance ceremony will be held at 11:45 a.m.
