Tap into Kid Rock's iPod and you might find ... the Foo Fighters? Apparently so — the Rock N Roll Jesus recently told MTV Europe he's a fan of Dave Grohl and his gang. "We played together in L.A. a few weeks back, oh, it was great," he said. "I love Dave Grohl — he's a silly guy." But Grohl isn't the only one Rock loves — he's a big fan of Jesus too, which is why he named his new album the way he did, he told Spin for its November issue, which streets Tuesday.

How Does The Press Fare In The Polls?

Presumably, most voters follow the campaign vicariously, getting information second hand from television, radio, newspapers and magazines, and the internet. What do they hear?

We know that Americans are more likely to say that the various media are liberal than to say they are conservative. In September, in a Gallup Poll, 45 percent said the media was too liberal while just 18 percent said it was too conservative. Only 35 percent said it was just about right. But voters tend to judge media coverage according to their own political beliefs. Conservatives are more likely to see liberal bias than liberals are.

When it comes to looking at the way the media cover individuals, Republicans and Democrats usually see things differently. In 2006, 61 percent of Republicans said the news media was harder on President George W.

Directors Union Reaches Tentative Agreement With Studios

WGA members went on strike in November after they were unable to strike a successful deal with the studios over digital royalties.

As a result of the new agreement between AMPTP and the DGA, the two organizations said in their joint statement that they hope this will mean good news for the writers too.

They also called for new talks in the strike.

"Today, we invite the Writers Guild of America to engage with us in a series of informal discussions similar to the productive process that led us to a deal with the DGA to determine whether there is a reasonable basis for returning to formal bargaining. We look forward to these discussions, and to the day when our entire industry gets back to work," the AMPTP and DGA joint statement concluded.

Hollywood actor George Clooney chimed in following the announcement, also expressing his desire that the news will help out those currently on strike.

Will this be the year the roof falls in?

I am one of those who admire David Cameron as Leader of the Opposition. I find his position as a liberal Conservative sympathetic; in this he is not unlike the Republican John McCain, who would be my choice in the American presidential race. Cameron has the gift of rising to the occasion in his big speeches. He takes his decisions quickly and rationally. He has a steely quality that he will need if he becomes Prime Minister.

All of this is fine and, indeed, quite impressive. Of course, there are policy issues on which I think he is mistaken. I regard academic selection as essential to providing the opportunities for gifted students; selection should not be confined to private education, which has been given an inordinate advantage.

There is, however, one Conservative commitment that makes no sense, and does not match the reality of the world's economic outlook.

The Debriefing: Lynchings Aren't Really a Great Source of Comedy

At some point over the next few days, someone might ask me what the Jaguars have to do to beat the Patriots on Saturday night. And my response might be that they should kidnap Tom Brady, chain him to a pipe in a dark crawlspace somewhere, and have Tony Boselli beat him with a bag of Canadian quarters until the game is over. Now, I don't really want that to happen to Tom Brady (at the very least, the quarters are unnecessary). You know that. People joke like this ... they suggest that the best or only way to overcome a superior talent is if that superior talent is unable to actually compete, and they often suggest an odd or humorous way for that talent to become incapacitated.I joke like this. Friends of mine joke like this. You might joke like this. And The Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman tried to joke like this ...

Jacqueline Gold: the woman who reinvented Ann Summers

Jacqueline Gold is the woman who turned her daddy's chain of sleazy Ann Summers sex shops into a multi-million-pound 'retail experience'. But beyond the boardroom there have been far harder battles - like facing up to years of sex abuse. She talks to Lucy Cavendish

For such a teeny tiny person, 47-year-old Jacqueline Gold carries a lot of weight on her shoulders. She may look like a little doll with her side-tied chignon and tight-fitting Alexander McQueen dress, but during the course of our conversation she coughs nervously and, at one point, tears come to her eyes. I hadn't expected this.
