WA's speed scoring sinks Blues

LUKE RONCHI and Shaun Marsh torched the NSW bowling attack to lead Western Australia to a resounding six-wicket win in their Twenty20 clash at ANZ Stadium last night.

Man of the match Ronchi (52 off 26 balls) pulverised the Blues opening pair of Doug Bollinger and Scott Coyte to set up the win with 15 balls to spare.

Chasing 160 for victory, Ronchi showed contempt in the third over of the innings for one of the domestic competition's form paceman in Bollinger, peeling 18 runs off the left-armer.

He and Marsh (67 off 50 balls) picked off 29 runs from Coyte's third over.

Seven hundred fans at the ground involved in speed dating had to switch partners at every wicket and boundary. They must have been dizzy with Ronchi at the crease as he crunched eight fours and two sixes.

MEITUS: Events of typical week waylay 10-year plan

No one noticed, but pssst, I could pass for at least 55. Oh, wait, I am 55.

* I had to catch all those sitcom reunions on the Today show which ate up time, and made me late to work. First, they had Happy Days, then One Day at a Time, then Murphy Brown, then my very favorite, Knots Landing.

They asked each of the actors what they were doing these days, and I loved the Murphy Brown actor, who said "topiary," and made sculpting movements with his hand, getting a laugh. He was a lot more impressive than the actors who clearly had a rather thin resume. I'm guessing that those were the ones who didn't have a 10-year plan.

When she's not working on a 10-year plan, Marty Meitus is the Food editor. meitusm@RockyMountainNews.com or 303-954-5229

Personal doctor: Specialty concierge medicine new area trend

Michael Gallops. β€œIt's personally fulfilling for me. I can do things to improve my patients' care."

In a traditional practice, to survive and thrive against decreasing reimbursement from Medicare and delayed payment from commercial insurers and the pileup of paperwork, doctors have 3,000 or more active patients. On average, they see 30 to 40 patients a day.

β€œI felt like I was in the emergency room, to just triage them and send them out," Korolevich said.

By decreasing patient volume to a few hundred patients, a concierge doctor can spend an hour with the patient, make follow-up calls to stay on top of issues and keep patients healthier and out of the hospital, Reed said.

He believes the concierge model may become mainstream, and potentially adopted by the federal government to address the looming bankruptcy of Medicare.

State Rep. LeDuc resigns

Pam Resor, D-Acton, announced she will not seek re-election.

With LeDuc leaving Beacon Hill to become the assistant clerk magistrate at the district court, state Rep. James Eldridge, D-Acton, and Marlborough Councilor at-large Steven Levy, a Republican, are the only candidates who have taken out nomination papers for Resor's seat.

LeDuc said in a statement yesterday he does not have a specific date for when he will leave office. He said he will serve in a dual role for the time being but forgo his legislative salary.

The clerk magistrate's office said yesterday LeDuc's job has an annual salary of $85,217.

LeDuc's announcement clouds the election picture for this fall with several people who swore off a Senate run now mulling a race for LeDuc's House seat.

Christmas Demonstrators Want Peace on Earth - Including In Iraq

For Steven Simon, it's a time to wear a Santa suit and go to the intersection of Blackstone and Shaw avenues to criticize U.S. foreign policy.

"I delivered some coal to the president on the way here," joked Simon, a student at the University of California at Los Angeles.

Simon and about 30 others joined up at the busy intersection Tuesday afternoon for what has become a holiday tradition — an annual Christmas war protest held by the advocacy group Peace Fresno.

It might strike some as an unusual way to spend the holiday, but organizers say the goal — peace — is what the season is all about.

Participants held signs with anti-war slogans. They also incorporated some holiday fun. Some sang revamped versions of holiday songs, even if some of the lyrics didn't exactly fit the melody.

I'm talking about a groundbreaking year, with innovations just coming into their own, great actors hitting their stride, memorable rookies stepping onto center stage, maybe even some of the all-time legends making The Leap.

In other words, I'm talking about 1984. Here are 84 reasons why 1984 can never be topped:

Universal Buys Univision Music Division

Seeking to become el grande in the growing U.S. Latin music market, Universal Music Group on Thursday said it had agreed to buy Univision Communications Inc.'s record division, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The purchase price was nearly $140 million, according to two people close to the negotiations who asked not to be identified because the financial terms were confidential.

The acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval, would more than triple Universal's share of the Latin music market to about 49%. And it would expand the range of the world's largest record company into such popular niches as regional Mexican music, Latin pop, Latin rap and hip-hop.

"This deal is about following the changing demographics of the population of the country," said Zach Horowitz, president and chief operating officer of Universal Music, who negotiated the deal.

Joining Facebook takes a few clicks, but leaving's another story

Are you a member of Facebook? You may have a lifetime contract.

Some users have discovered that it is nearly impossible to remove themselves entirely from Facebook, setting off a fresh round of concern over the popular social network's use of personal data.

While the Web site offers users the option to deactivate their accounts, Facebook servers keep copies of those accounts indefinitely. Indeed, many users who have contacted Facebook to request that accounts be deleted have not succeeded in erasing their records from the network.

Blonde for more movie roles?

Lindsay Lohan stepped into the Neil George Salon yesterday and emerged transformed. She smiled big as she headed to the James Blunt concert last night, proudly sporting her new darker 'do. Her new look is a huge improvement β€” she looks way more natural, not to mention about 10 years younger β€” Do you love it or hate it? LL said in Harper's Bazaar that she went blonde in hopes of scoring a movie role, but we think that her chances are even better with her new look.
